We were so impressed with the Scierra HM3 5-weight that went through our office that wedecided to do a full review of this new series. Accordingly we dragged a bunch of 7 and 8-weight HM3 models off to Mexico in pursuit of onefish, tarpon and permit.

Scierra's top-of-the line HM3s were designed by World Casting Champion, Hywell Morgan, a guy who can throw a fly 265 feet! HM3s are available in line weights 4 through 8. All are 4-piece, 9 foot rods priced at $499.99.

They feature ultra-high modulas blanks outfitted with two dual-foot strippers with SiC inserts, low-friction/wide-aperture snakes, and tip-over-butt ferrules with alignment marks.

The hard anodized aluminum reel seats have dual locking rings and fish profiles machined out of the barrels, revealing carbon-fiber inserts underneath. All HM3s come packed in a sexy-looking, olive-green, carbon-fiber rod tube.

Cortland Precision Series Fly Line
The best floating fly line ever? We think so and you will too!
Cortland took the revolutionary high floating tip section and proven jacket formulation of the award winning 555 Dyna-Tip and married it to the new easy loading, long casting “Rocket 2 taper”. The Precision Dyna-Tip loads today’s faster rods for peak performance at any distance, short, medium, and across the river. The Rocket 2 taper is the first real advance in fly line tapers in a generation. By concentrating the weight towards the front of the line, and gradually tapering to the running line section, the Precision Dyna-Tip loads quickly for accurate close casts. When you need to reach out, the forward taper acts like a shooting head for maximum distance with minimum effort. Mint Green color allows you track your cast.

But there are more goodies in this basket. The 6-foot sage color tip is formulated from a proprietary material that floats higher and lands more softly than conventional fly lines. Say “goodbye” to tip-sink, and “hello” to better presentations.

A trout line needs to perform in all climates and conditions. The Precision Dyna-Tip stays supple and in the ice water of a New England April but still won’t wilt when the Tricos are falling on the Missouri. And don’t try to tell this line anything; it has virtually no “memory”! No memory means no annoying coils. No coiling means longer, easier, more precise casting. And precise casting means more fish! Available in WF 4-7 Floating
